Conductor docked for hitting policeman with plank

(Nigeria) The Police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 30-year-old bus conductor, Akeem Jamiu, before an Apapa Senior Magistrate Court, Lagos State, for allegedly using a plank to hit a police Sergeant.
The accused, who resides in Amuwo Odofin Area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of the peace.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused used a plank to attack Sgt. Sama Ahmed and injured him, while on official duty.
``The accused unlawfully attacked the policeman while performing his official duty,” Inedu said.
He said the accused committed the offences on June 29 at Mile 2, Lagos-Badagry expressway, Lagos.
The prosecutor also said that the offences contravened Sections 171 and 228 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Adeyemi Amos, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He directed that the surety must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case till August 31 for mention.
