Collapsed bridge cuts off 3 Gombe communities
(Nigeria) Residents of three
communities in Yamaltu/Deba and Kwami Local Government Areas of Gombe
State, have been cut-off from the rest of the state following the
collapse of the Lubo Bridge, reports NAN.
The bridge, located in
Yamaltu/Deba council, collapsed on Tuesday, after several hours of rain.
The affected communities include Diffa, Lubo and Kinafa in Yamaltu/Deba local government, as well as Daban Fulani in Kwami local government.
It was gathered that motorists, passengers and pedestrians from the communities are facing difficulties travelling in and out of the area.
The situation had forced them to detour through Gaji-Bauchi-Malam Sidi road to reach Gombe, a resident, has said.
Mr Jafar Tijani-Zambuk, of Zambuk town, neighbouring the affected communities, said even the residents of Zambuk also had to travel to Malam Sidi through Gombe before linking with their relations in Difa town.
According to him, before the bridge collapsed, travellers from Zambuk spent about 10 minutes to reach Difa and Lubo, but now had to spend at least two hours to reach the village.
The Deputy Gov. Tha’anda Rubainu, had visited the collapsed bridge on Wednesday, and assured that the government would "do something about it".
Rubainu sympathised with the communities for their suffering, and told them that the Baure-Gaji-Bauchi road was among the roads earmarked for execution by the government, to address the problem.
