Police confirm 6 dead, 6 injured in blast in Kano

(Nigeria) The police in Kano have confirmed six people dead and six others injured in a Monday evening  blast in Sabongari area of the city.
The commissioner of police in Kano State, Alhaji Musa Daura, said that the explosion occurred at a bar, where people also played snooker.
Three loud explosion rocked the scene immediately after the .Muslim  night prayers and soon after the blasts, there was sporadic shooting in the area.
Residents within the vicinity of the incident made frantic telephone calls to confirm the whereabouts of their relations.
Mrs Ngozi Eze of Yoruba  Road, some distance  away from the scene, asked:  "what is this again when we thought everything has died down?
``Only God will save us in this Kano.’’
The blast shook the foundations of many buildings near the spot, where the blast occurred.

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
