Poor officiating, bane of league development, says Danladi

(Nigeria) Isaac Danladi, the Chairman, Nasarawa United FC, on Sunday called on the League Management Company, LMC, to put stringent measures in place against poor officiating. Danladi told News Agency of Nigeria, in Lagos that poor officiating was the bane of the league and could mar its progress, if not immediately checked.
He said that although match officials were fairly rated after the first stanza of the Globacom league, he, however, charged them to be fair in the second stanza.
``Although referees were rated slightly above average in the first round of the league, I feel they still need to do more in that regard, as their security is not negotiable.
``Without free and fair officiating, the league will not grow; the bane of developing the league is poor officiating.
``Poor officiating greatly affects the growth of our local leagues and it reflects in the quality of our football when we go for international engagements,'' Danladi said.
The chairman also urged the LMC to improve on the organisation of the league, in order to enable it to gain more prominence within Africa and globally.
``We need a more organised league which will encapsulate everything: security, quality football and of course, of officiating and so much more,'' the chairman said.
On Nasarawa FC’s plans in the second stanza of the league, Danladi said that his club had gone back to its drawing board to chart a new course.
``We don't want to boast, but our fans will see us as a different, but more improved club in the second round.
``In fact, we have taken advantage of the transfer window. Our club has been beefed up with four new players that will bring their expertise to the fore on the pitch.
``We have also paid a reasonable part of their sign-on fees and we intend to complete payment before the league ends,’’ he said.
The Nasarawa United are in the eighth position on the league table with 28 points from 19 matches played in the first stanza.
