Gov. Oshiomhole dismisses allegation of rigging council polls

(Nigeria) Edo State Governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole,  Tuesday dismissed the allegation that his administration rigged last week’s council polls in the state, saying he remained committed to the principle of one-man one vote.
Oshiomhole made the denial while fielding questions from State House correspondents in Abuja.
He described the election as the “best election” so far conducted in the state.
According to him, the Action Congress Nigeria, ACN, won the election in all the local government areas of the state because “more people have left the Peoples Democratic Party,  PDP for ACN in Edo State’’.
“More and more people have decamped from PDP because they were completely demoralised. The chief legal coordinator of the PDP candidate decamped to join ACN a month ago.
“The chief agent of the PDP gubernatorial candidate at INEC decamped to join ACN. And it is instructive what they said.
‘’When they decamped, they said when a child keeps failing unhalted, first time, second time, third time.
“Quoting this guys, they say a responsible person will say my friend go and learn work ‘ebe like say your brain is not good for this kind bookwork. So, the truth is more people have left PDP.”
Oshiomhole claimed that he had succeeded in dismantling “PDP rigging machines” in the state.
“You recall that last July 16, 2012, I contested election in Edo State and I won in all the 18 local government areas, including Chief Anenih’s local government. I defeated him in his local government area; I defeated him in his ward.
“Onolomemeh, the Minister of Works, I defeated him in his polling booth; I defeated him in his ward.
“The Hon. Itulah, a member of the House of Reps, former Speaker of Edo State, I defeated him in his ward; I defeated him in his unit. Where are the PDP guys?
“This is the height of the PDP God-father. So, God has used us to dismantle, if it is evil, it can’t stand.”
On May Day celebration, Oshiomhole enjoined the organised labour organisations to redouble their efforts in ensuring social justice and fairness in the society.
According to him, people who don’t work but are making money are still too many.
“You know there still difficulties in reconciling efforts with reward. Those who work the hardest can hardly feed. And those who are not working are having so much.
“Look at the subsidy boys who had worked to become millionaires, the pension girls and pension boys.
“Of course, you know, it's a fact of economic theory that what has been pocketed by the few is simply not available for the majority.”
