FMBN pensioners seek prompt payment of arrears

The Nigerian Union of  Pensioners, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria branch, has urged the management of the institution to ensure prompt payment of their pension arrears. The union made the call on Tuesday in Ibadan at  its second delegate's  lecture entitled: `` The role of Federal Mortgage Bank pensioners in promoting Housing Delivery in Nigeria.’’
The president of the union, Chief Ladipo Ani, said the main concern of  members was  the legitimate demand of pension and arrears.
`` This is supported by National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Section 173 (3) of the 1999 Constitution as amended and the Supreme Court judgment against the Central Bank of Nigeria management.
`` We chose the path of dialogue in addressing the plight and deplorable conditions of our members without compromising their earnings and aspirations,’’ he said.
Mr Dauda Yusuf, the Head of  Corporate Affairs of  FMBN, who declared open the forum,  assured the union that the bank would look into their demands.
`` We are really desirous to be part of your programme. I have heard all the requests; we have taken note.  I assure you that all what you have said were noted," Yusuf said.
Delivering the lecture, the National President, Council of Real Estate Developers, Mr Olabode Afolayan, said FMBN was positioned to service the housing needs of  citizens.
`` As part of the efforts to deepen mortgage operations in the country, government promulgated Act Number 53 of 1989 which entails the operating, regulatory and supervisory guidelines for Primary Mortgage Institutions," he said.
He urged FMBN pensioners not to sit back after retiring, adding that  they should play active role by ensuring that the institution fulfilled its mandate.
`` You are a ready army of resource persons for housing finance sub-sector.  This is apt  if you all update your knowledge in tandem with modern dynamics in the housing delivery system. You are ready tools of enlightenment on the activities of the institution to the teaming populace who are oblivious of the role of FMBN.
`` Many do not know how to access the National Housing Fund loan. Your members can be pioneers in the unbundling of mortgage activities by becoming brokers, loan recovery agents and mortgage loan administrators," Afolayan said.
