5 killed in Ringim attack - Police confirm

(Nigeria) The Acting Governor of Jigawa, Alhaji Ahmad Mahmud, confirmed on Monday that five people were killed in a series of attacks at different locations in Ringim town of the state. The  gunmen attacked the serene town on Sunday night.
Mahmud told newsmen  in Ringim after inspecting some of the affected areas that three policemen and two night watchmen guarding Unity Bank Plc lost their lives in the attack.
Mahmud was accompanied by Mr Mohammed Kabir and the state director of Department of State Security  in the state on an assessment tour of the town.
``I am in Ringim to sympathise with the people over the unfortunate incident that took place in the town on Sunday,” he said.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Police Command in Jigawa, Mr Abdu Jinjiri,  said  no arrest had been made in connection with the attack.
Jinjiri dismissed talk that the house of a former Inspector-General of Police, Mr  Hafiz Ringim, was razed in the attack.
He said that the ``evil men attacked the Ringim Police Station and the main branch of Unity Bank'' in the town.
Also, the Emir of Ringim, Alhaji Sayyadi Mahmud, confirmed that five people died in the attack.
Mahmud called for prayers to avoid a repeat of the incident and commended the efforts of the divisional police officer and his men in handling the situation
