Afenifere canvasess amnesty for Boko Haram members
Yoruba socio-cultural movement-Afenifere Renewal Group has faulted President
Goodluck Jonathan for not engaging
members of Islamic sect group, Boko- Haram in dialogue, saying that the
president ought to have granted amnesty to members of the group.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti, Friday, while appraising the government of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his adoption for second term in office, state Coordinator of the group, Elder Bunmi Awotiku, said it was wrong for the president to have ignored the advice of Sultan and the President Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sahad Abubakar , who had called on the Federal Government to consider granting amnesty to members of the group
ARG noted pointed out that it was not right to refer members of the group as faceless
'If Sultan says grant amnesty to Boko-Haram, the president ought to have see merit in the advice of our revered sultan. If the president had during his visits to Borno and Yobe States, promised to grant amnesty to the group, I am sure, members of Boko Haram would have come out and entered dialogue with the Federal Government.”
The group, however sympathized with the victims of Boko Haram killings and others, who have been affected by the menace caused by the group.
ARG, however, urged President Jonathan to wake up from his slumber and face the serious responsibility of governance.
