Man killed in tussle over girl friend

(Nigeria) A 28 year old man, Mr Yusuf Salihu has been killed by another man over an alleged  misunderstanding over a girlfriend in Nasarawa State. Meanwhile, the police in Nasarawa State on Saturday confirmed the killing of  Salihu, 28, by another man in an apparent tussle over  a girl friend in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state. Ismaila Umar-Noman, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident when he spoke in Lafia. ``We received information on April 22, that some youths in Akwanga mobilised themselves with cutlasses, knives, among others, to revenge the death of Mr Yusuf Salihu who was allegedly stabbed to death by Mr Alias Sadam on misunderstanding over a girlfriend. ``We quickly sent our officers to the area to investigate what was happening and on reaching there, our men discovered that one Mr Yusuf Salihu was stabbed at his back with a knife by one Mr Alias Sadam and he died on the spot. ``The police have already commenced investigation in to th

5 INEC ad hoc staff arrested for thumb-printing in Imo

(Nigeria) Five ad hoc officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Imo State were on Saturday arrested for thumb-printing ballot papers in the governorship re-run election in the state. The officials were arrested at Omuma Primary School in Oru East local government following an order by Mr Mike Igini, one of the resident electoral commissioners deployed to Imo for the election. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo, Dr Gabriel Ada, who confirmed the arrest, said that the officials were already in police custody. Ada said the ad hoc workers connived with agents of a political party to thumb-print ballot papers leading to their arrest. In the same vein, the election has been cancelled in Ozuh Primary School, Omuma following the arrest of 25 persons claiming to be INEC officials by military men. The arrested persons and the election materials in their possession were taken to the Oru East local government headquarters.
