ACN faults persistent campaign of calumny against APC

(Nigeria) The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has condemned the persistent campaign of calumny against the All Progressives Congress, APC, describing the attempt to use ethno-religious sentiments to destroy the budding party as a cheap shot that has fallen flat on the faces of the purveyors of falsehood. In a statement in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party, however, thanked Nigerians for rejecting the attempt, going by their reactions on the Social Media where the latest campaign is being waged by those who are hell bent on perpetuating mediocre leadership in Nigeria. Police confirm abduction of 3 NYSC members in Rivers

(Nigeria) The Rivers Police Command on Saturday in Port Harcourt confirmed the abduction of three members of the NYSC serving with Abua/Odual local government council of the state. Mrs Angela Agabe, the command’s Public Relations Officer, told News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that two male and one female youth corps members were abducted. She said they were seized by armed men in the early hours of Saturday. Agabe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police,  said the motive behind the kidnapping was however still unknown. The police PRO said the command’s anti-kidnapping unit, had since commenced a search for the missing corps members. ``Reports received by the command indicate that the corps members went to Ogomokon jetty, near the council headquarters, where three armed men abducted them early today (Saturday). “So far, no group has claimed responsibility and no ransom has been demanded. Flood: Farmers abandon community in search of safe farm lands in Edo

(Nigeria) Farmers in Udaba community, near Fugar in Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo, have abandoned their farms in search of safer lands for fear of floods. The farmers in the area were among the severely-hit by last year's flood. Speaking on the situatio, the Udaba Village Head, Chief Daniel Utakpe, told NAN in Udaba that the relocation became necessary following the life threatening experience of 2012. Utakpe said that the farmers relocated to neighbouring communities of Esan South East, Esan North East and part of highland of Ekperi kingdom in Etsako Central. He said that  the farmers moved in their large numbers, abandoning the community to a safer place, to continue their farming business. Presidential Committee still hopeful of dialoguing with Boko Haram - Turaki

(Nigeria) The Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of the Security Challenges in the North says it is still hopeful of engaging in dialogue with the Boko Haram sect. Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, the Chairman of the committee told News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Sunday that dialogue would take place in spite of the recent developments. . Turaki, who is also the Minister of Special Duties, said the dialogue would bring lasting solutions to the states affected by the insurgency. ``Let me say that conflicts are resolved not on the battle field but on the negotiation table. NUPENG issues notice of 3-day warning strike

(Nigeria) The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, said it would begin a three-day warning strike on Monday. This is contained in a statement signed by NUPENG's General-Secretary, Mr Isaac Aberare, on Sunday in Lagos. The statement said that the workers were going on strike over alleged unfair labour practices by some major oil companies in the country. ``The strike is also to protest the refusal of NARTO to implement the signed collective bargaining agreement with the petroleum tanker drivers. ``We are also unhappy over the bad state of roads across the nation, ‘’ the statement said. The statement said that all efforts by the Federal Ministry of Labour to intervene in the issue three weeks ago had failed. (Nigeria) The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately order a probe into the published report that Rivers State Governor, Mr Chibuike Amaechi was barred from paying his respects to the President at a dinner in the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday. Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zidan on Thursday sacked Defence Minister Mohammed al-Berghathi following deadly clashes in the capital Tripoli, Libyan media reported. Zidan announced al-Berghathi's sacking at a news conference in Tripoli after two days of clashes among rival armed militias in the city/ The clashes, according to the independent news agency Solidarity Press, left five people dead and 97 injured.
