Senate steps down reports on bills to establish Varrsity of Education, College of Forestry

*Nigerian Senate (Nigeria) The Senate on Wednesday stepped down two reports on bills seeking to establish the Federal University of Education Numan, and the Federal College of Forestry, Wawa Zange Dukku in Gombe state. The reports were presented by Senator Nora Daduut on behalf of the Chairman, Committee on a tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita.   The reports for the establishment of the two institutions were stepped down by the chamber after it suspended the clause-by-clause consideration of both bills in a Committee of the Whole. While clauses 1 to 5 of the bill to establish the University of Education Numan were approved by the chamber, only clauses 1 and 2 received approval in the second bill to establish the Federal College of Forestry before they were stepped down. *Nigerian Senate (Nigeria) The Senate has acknowledged the approval by the Council of Legal Education, CLE, for the establishment of the Nabo Graham Douglas Campus of the Nigerian Law School. Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele said they would visit the Port Harcourt campus of the Nigerian Law School to assess ongoing construction work. *Colonel Milland Dikio (Nigeria) National Association of Presidential Amnesty Students Worldwide, NAPASW, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to secure their future by making Colonel Milland Dikio (retd), substantive administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP. New executive members and all chapter presidents of the association made the appeal in Abuja,  when they visited the Amnesty Office to thank Dikio for providing the needed leadership for the PAP in the last one year. The students noted that since Dikio took charge of the programme, he has instituted key reforms and made the needed changes that they were satisfied with, adding that making him the substantive head of PAP would give him the opportunity to consolidate on the current achievements. Senate passes bills to establish federal versity, teaching hospital in Ekiti, Nasarawa

(Nigeria) The Senate on Wednesday passed two bills seeking to establish a federal university and teaching hospital in Ekiti and Nasarawa States, respectively. The bills are Federal University of Health and Medical Sciences Iyin, Ekiti State (Establishment) Bill, 2021, and Federal University Lafia Teaching Hospital (Establishment) Bill, 2021. Both bills are sponsored by Senators Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), and Tanko Al-Makura (APC, Nasarawa South). The passage of both bills followed the presentation and consideration of two separate reports by the Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary). A concerned parent who claimed anonymity disclosed this to journalists, saying, "ABUAD admitted 400 students for the 1st year, with tuition of N4,000,000, knowing, only 100 could graduate, now, more than 75 percent of the  students passed the exams and the only option they have is use tuition fees to drop some students. Ugwuanyi offers scholarships to young inventors of aircraft, MP3 radio set

(Nigeria) Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has offered scholarships, up to University level, to the Enugu and Anambra-born young students of Government Technical College GTC, Nsukka and Enugu, Master Emmanuel Maduabuchi Chukwu and Master Chukwuebuka Udoye, who locally manufactured two aircraft (helicopter and jet fighter) and an MP3 radio set, respectively, in the state. Ugwuanyi announced the scholarships when he received the two students at the Government House Enugu on Tuesday, to appreciate their talents, skills and sheer dexterity in promoting technology-based innovation in the state. Enugu govt extends fire safety training workshop for staff, students to more schools

(Nigeria) The administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State through the State Fire Service has announced that has successfully completed the first phase of the fire safety training workshop for staff and students of secondary schools in the state. The State Fire Service also disclosed that it has so far conducted training, and installed fire extinguishers, in 18 secondary schools in the first phase of the exercise. (Nigeria) The Lagos House of Assembly on Thursday debated two bills proposing the establishment of two tertiary institutions - a University of Education and a University of Science and Technology - in the state. The bills, which scaled second reading on the floor of the House presided over by the Speaker, Dr Mudashiru Obasa, were committed to the House Committee on Education (Tertiary) to report back in two weeks. Bisi Yusuff (Alimosho 1) argued that the bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the university of Education, Lagos (UNEDLAG) was important as he suggested that it should also have provision for pre-degree programmes.
