Illegal possession of firearms: Ex-NISA boss, Jolapamo to be arraigned On Dec. 2

(Nigeria) A Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed December 2, 2022 , for the arraignment of the founding President of the Nigerian Shipowners Association , NISA, Chief Isaac Jolapamo, over alleged illegal possession of firearms. Jolapamo is to be arraigned before   Justice Yelim Bogoro on a 3-count charge bordering on   alleged unlawful possession of guns. Precious attempts to arraign the shipping magnate were stalled due to his absence in court. The last attempt made to arraign him court was stalled was stalled due to alleged ailment. When the matter came up on Friday, Police prosecutor, Anthony Iyeye, informed the court that matter was for arraignment and for the Defendant to take his plea. However, Jolapamo's counsel, Mr. Femi Falana , SAN , told the court that the defendant has been hospitalised, and not in court to take him plea. Chisco hails NDLEA for arresting drug suspects

(Nigeria) C hisco Transport Nigeria Limited has commended the  National  Drug Law Enforcement Agency , NDLEA, for arresting and detaining one of its drivers and a receiver who were said to be in possession of substances suspected to be illicit drugs. The substances were found in one of the company’s buses travelling from Lagos to Abuja on October 26, 2022. A statement by the management of the company in Lagos read in part: "We hereby state emphatically that Chisco Transport Nigeria Limited, as a law-abiding organisation, worked with the Nigeria Police to apprehend the other suspect and has handed them over to the NDLEA for thorough investigation and diligent prosecution." Terrorism: Geoscientist Prof urges FG to employ geophysical technology

(Nigeria) A geoscientist, Prof. Isaac Aigbedion has asked the Federal Government to deploy geophysical technology in addressing the worsening problem of insecurity in the country. He pointed out that the conventional security methods had driven criminal groups, such as Boko Haram terrorists to more advanced measures to avoid detention. Prof. Aigbedion made the recommendation while delivering the 96th Inaugural Lecture of the Ambrose Alli University , AAU, Ekpoma, Edo State, en titled; “Footprints of the Geoscientist: The Bedrock of Man’s Survivability in Nature’s Complex Treasure Trove . ” The professor of Exploration Geophysics recommended that geophysical technology be deployed to aid location of concealed weapons and arms caches, explosives and other devices, as well as to generate forensic evidence that would be used to bring criminals to justice. Court orders NAMA MD's arrest over alleged contempt

*Matthew Pwajok (Nigeria) A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos Tuesday ordered the arrest of the Director-General of the National Airspace Management Authority , NAMA , Mr. Matthew Pwajok for alleged disobedience to a court order. Justice Babs Kuewunmi made the order following an application by counsel to the third and eighth defendants, Mr. Olalekan Ojo , SAN, at the resumption of a N6.95billion fraud charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes , EFCC , against a former NAMA managing director, Ibrahim Abdulsalam, and 11 others. Ojo, in the application, alleged that Pwajok shunned a July 2 , subpoena issued by the court commanding him to appear and produce the documents requested by both defendants. In a short ruling, Justice Kuewunmi directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to ensure Pwajok is brought to court. Courts jail 5 internet fraudsters in Kaduna

(Nigeria) Two seperate Kaduna State High Courts,  sitting in Kaduna,  have convicted and sentenced five internet fraudsters to different terms of imprisonment.  Trial judges in the cases are Justices A.A Bello and Darius Khobo. The convicts: Vincent Solomon, Godwin Uchechukwu, Miracle Festus, Chibueze Michael Joseph and Danjuma Samuel Enoch,   were jailed on September 26,   2022,   after pleading guilty to one-count separate charge,   bordering on internet fraud, upon their arraignment by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. $23m Abacha loot: SERAP sues Buhari, Malami for failing to publish agreement with U.S.’

*Gen Sani Abacha (Nigeria)  Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project , SERAP , has filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari over “the failure to publish copy and details of the agreement the Federal Government recently signed with the United States for the repatriation of $23 million stolen by the late dictator Sani Abacha.” Joined in the suit as Respondent is the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami , SAN.   The United States government had in August signed an agreement with the Federal Government to repatriate $23 million Abacha loot to Nigeria. The $23 million adds to the $311.7 million Abacha loot repatriated from the U.S. to Nigeria in 2020. The 'bill for a law to provide for the rights and entitlements of victims and protection of witnesses and for connected purposes' was passed during plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa. The bill stipulates provision of assistance and protection to victims and witnesses who have vital information that could help ensure effective prosecution of cases, but who face intimidation due to their cooperation with the prosecution or law enforcement agencies. A part of the bill further states: "Every person, including security agents shall render assistance to victims of accidents or crimes and ensure that such persons are taken to the nearest hospital for immediate care and treatment. *Reno Omokri (Nigeria) A Port Harcourt based lawyer, Azubuike Ihemeje, urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to investigate former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri, over alleged criminal representation . Ihemeje in separate petitions sent to EFCC, ICPC in Port Harcourt, claimed that Omokiri received salaries above his employment status and thereby obtained by false pretence. (Nigeria) A  Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki , Ebonyi State,  has convicted and sentenced a job scammer, Emeka Anaga, to a total of 404 years imprisonment, for conspiracy and fraud. Justice Akintayo Aluko on Wednesday gave the verdict through zoom, while delivering judgment in a separate charge filed against the convict by the Abakaliki Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC. *Federal High Court, Lagos  (Nigeria) A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday has ordered the remand of one Philip Elue, an alleged importer of 1 X 40ft container, laden with 86 packs of Cannabis Sativa, popularly called Indian Hemp. Justice Akintayo Aluko ordered Philip's remand in the custody of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos State, till August 31, 2022, when investigation would have been concluded on the alleged crime.
