Lagos launches mass vaccination campaign against COVID

(Nigeria) Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State. has launched a State-wide Mass Vaccination Campaign against the COVID-19 Virus Infection in the State as part of efforts aimed at mitigating the potential damage that the further spread of the COVID-19 virus may cause. WAHO designates Enugu Diagnostic Centre as beneficiary of its laboratory programs

(Nigeria) The West African Health Organisation, WAHO, has announced Enugu State Medical Diagnostic Centre, Enugu, as one of the beneficiaries of its laboratory strengthening programmes funded by the German Government. Speaking during the opening ceremony of a three-day conference in Enugu, on Monday, being attended by all the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, member-states and declared open by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, the Director-General of WAHO, Prof. Stanley Okolo, disclosed that the laboratory strengthening programmes, which include “both those funded by community levy and those funded by our partners” are in the spirit of taking ECOWAS to the grassroots. “I hope that Enugu State will maximize the opportunity of being included in West Africa's network of regional reference laboratories created for the sole purpose of early detection and response to outbreaks and epidemics,” Prof. Okolo added. Senate passes bills to establish federal versity, teaching hospital in Ekiti, Nasarawa

(Nigeria) The Senate on Wednesday passed two bills seeking to establish a federal university and teaching hospital in Ekiti and Nasarawa States, respectively. The bills are Federal University of Health and Medical Sciences Iyin, Ekiti State (Establishment) Bill, 2021, and Federal University Lafia Teaching Hospital (Establishment) Bill, 2021. Both bills are sponsored by Senators Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), and Tanko Al-Makura (APC, Nasarawa South). The passage of both bills followed the presentation and consideration of two separate reports by the Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary). Federal High Court, Lagos (Nigeria) A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday declared that a former Miss Nigeria, Helen Prest-Ajayi, is entitled to 50 per cent of the net assets of her late husband, Dr Tosin Ajayi. Justice Tijjani Ringim gave the ruling in a suit by Miss Tomisin Ajayi and Mrs Helen Prest Ajayi as 1st and 2nd Applicants, filed through their counsel, Mr Abiodun Owonikoko, SAN. The 1st to 4th Respondents/Applicants in the suit are First Foundation Medical Engineering Company Ltd, Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC,  Mrs Oluwayemisi Ajayi and Mr Patrick Abak, a lawyer. First Foundation Medical Engineering Company was owned and registered by the late Dr Tosin Ajayi. (Nigeria) Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on returning from Abuja on Sunday, after participating in a series of meetings of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, visited the ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, to empathise with survivors of the unfortunate fire incidents caused by adulterated kerosene sold in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of the state. Auto crash claims 5 lives on Benin-Asaba Road

(Nigeria) No fewer than five persons lost their lives following a fatal accident that occurred at the New Lagos-Benin-Asaba Express Road in Emuhu, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. According to an eyewitness account, a tanker loaded with diesel had lost control and rammed into a fully loaded 14-seater bus before bursting into flames. We learnt the vehicles were on high speed and going toward the same direction when the unfortunate incident occurred. Our sources alleged that the bus and tanker were struggling to outrun each other whilst it was raining heavily. The tanker suddenly rammed into the bus from the side in the process tearing it apart, and burst into flames. According to a source close to the Police in Agbor Divisional Headquarters, the 14-seater bus was coming from Onitsha heading to the Northern part of the country. *Federal High Court, Lagos (Nigeria) A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on Thursday restrained Mrs Oluwayemisi Ajayi from dealing with or running the affairs of her estranged husband's firm as a sole surviving director/shareholder pending the hearing and determination of the main suit. The firm, First Foundation Medical Engineering Company Ltd, was owned and registered in accordance with the law, by late Dr Tosin Ajayi. The judge, Justice Tijjani Ringim, made the order following an ex-parte application by Dr Ajayi's daughter, Miss Tomisin Ajayi, and his widow, Mrs Helen Prest Ajayi. Their application sought to restrain Oluwayemisi from running the affairs whatsoever of the first respondent, First Foundation Medical Engineering Company Ltd. (Nigeria) The Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force has uncovered the Delta variant of the COVID-19 in the State.
