Soldier shot dead bride's mother in Delta

(Nigeria) Tragedy struck on Saturday morning as a mother of a bride was allegedly shot dead by a soldier at the Ekpan Junction, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. The deceased was on her way to the wedding ceremony of her daughter when the incident occurred. The first son of the deceased, Alero said a keke operator flouted the soldier’s order when he was flagged down and the soldier opened fire leading to the deceased death. According to hi, this reason is not enough for one of the soldiers to release bullets on my mother. The sister told newsmen at the Ekpan Police station that the killer-soldier had been whisked away by members of the JTF contrary to reports that he had been arrested. Army ready to dislodge Boko Haram from Sambisa ---Minister

(Nigeria) Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mansur Dan'ali, on Saturday, said that the Nigerian Army was set to destroy all camps and hideouts of members of the Boko Haram sect in Sambisa forest. Dan'ali made the statement during an inspection tour of the construction site of a new army barrack in Gusau. According to him, the Nigerian Army is now at the verge of entering the forest and will soon flush out the insurgents terrorising some states in the northeast of Nigeria. How NIMASA ex-MD diverted N.746.3b fund ---Witness

(Nigeria) A witness for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the ongoing trial of the embattled former NIMASA boss Patrick Akpobolokemi, Orji Chukwuma, EFCC's 12th and supposed last witness further told the court details of how the sum of N.746,3billion released by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014 for a project in the NIMASA was allegedly diverted. Chukwuma, who is an investigator with the EFCC made the revelations before Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos where Akpobolokemi and five others are standing trial for allegedly defrauding NIMASA of the sum of N2.6bn between March and June 2014. Chukwuma said though Akpobolokemi requested the money in 2013 for the implementation of the International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) facility in NIMASA, 89 percent of the fund was diverted. He created ISPS to carry out security checks on vessels entering Nigeria. The witness told the court how exPresident  Jonathan further approved sum of N.795

(Nigeria) No fewer than 100 workers outsourced to Aero Contractors by Skyborne Ltd have been sacked following the airline's decision to review its relationship with the company. The airline confirmed the development in a statement  on Friday by its Media Consultant, Mr Simon Tumba, said: ``In the course of reorganising and repositioning its business, Aero Contractors has reviewed its relationship with Skyborne by cutting down some of the services required from the company. ``This will help the company to invest more resources to enhance customer service. For the records, Aero has not sacked any of its staff.’’ It was gathered that most of the affected contract workers had spent some years with the airline.
