Rivers PDP faults Ikanya’s allegation against Gov Wike
(Nigeria) Chairman, Rivers State chapter of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Felix Obuah, has described the allegation by the All
Progressives Congress, APC, chairman, Davies Ikanya, that the state governor, Mr
Nyesom Wike presently runs a parallel country of his own contrary to the law of
Nigeria, as another unproductive effort by a failed man and party struggling
for breath.
The PDP chairman in a
statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday, said there was no such situation in
Rivers State and called on the APC and its leaders to stop the blackmail and
politics of calumny against a performing governor who has continually
demonstrated his respect for the laws of the land as much as he respects the
rule of law as well as the rights of the citizens, including those of the APC
as the chief opposition in the State as enshrined in the constitution of
Nigeria.
“These allegations by Mr. Ikanya are baseless and aimed at
giving the government bad image and portray the State as unsafe, having seen
evidences of positive development and change on ground since the assumption of
office by Governor Wike. We call on the people of the state and all Nigerians
not to give Mr. Ikanya and his associates listening ears.”
The PDP chairman said rather than accept the true realities
and commend the governor for the level of development that has taken place in
the State under his leadership, the APC leaders were only distorting facts and
making efforts to make life unbearable for residents of the State.
“It is evident that since they lost out in the governorship
and successive elections in the state, Mr. Ikanya and the APC chieftains have
continued to conduct themselves lawlessly as though they are above the law.
“They carry out their activities in the State with impunity,
disrespecting public orders, drive against traffic, disobey government
regulations and restriction of movement orders, particularly on sanitation
days, etc.
“It is quite disheartening that Mr. Ikanya and other leaders
of APC, a party that claims to be progressive, undermine the State government,
evade taxes, drive in convoys with siren, and even make radio and television
broadcasts indiscriminately, without compliance with the requirements of the
law guiding those actions,” Obuah stressed.
He therefore, called on the Police and other relevant
security agencies to ensure the unruliness and lawless conducts of the APC
leaders in the state are brought under control, as these activities do not
portray them in good light.
“It is also important that we call on Mr. Ikanya and his
co-travelers to desist from blackmailing the government and people of Rivers
State, as we do not observe this in other States of the federation. It is time
to help build our State, if we love it, rather than destroy it,” the state PDP
boss added.
