Wike’s investment in science education, commendable ---Obuah
*Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State
Obuah in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and
Publicity, Jerry Needam said no leader in the history of the state has shown
such degree of remarkable interest in seeing the state take off technologically
by re-awakening the interest of our school children in Science, Technology and
Mathematics as Governor Wike.
The State PDP chairman also expressed joy that the governor’s
efforts in this regard are not lost on the Science Teachers Association of
Nigeria, STAN and commended the body for reciprocating the efforts of His
Excellency by holding their 60th Anniversary Conference in Port Harcourt, the
State capital and the investiture of Governor Wike as the patron of STAN.
More remarkable, Obuah stated, is the sponsorship of 400
Science Teachers for this year’s STAN Conference geared towards encouraging
science teachers in public schools across the State to upgrade their knowledge
of current trends in science and technology so as to be able to teach the
students well.
This, according to the State PDP boss, will help boost the
selected Secondary Schools that have been provided with, and adequately
equipped with science laboratories by the State government across the State as
model and prototype science based schools in line with Governor Wike’s plan to
give science and technology priority attention in our primary and post primary
institutions.
Obuah enjoined all those concerned particularly the science
and mathematics teachers and the chosen prototype science-based schools to
reciprocate the governor’s efforts by showing commitment in their duties for
the benefit and future of our children.
Wishing, the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria, STAN,
a fruitful and successful conference/workshop, Obuah appealed that similar and
regular conferences should be organized for science, technology and mathematics
teachers across the country to be able to catch up with the speedy moving world
of this age of science and technology.
