Ogba peopleof Rivers mourn late Oba of Benin
(Nigeria) The people of Ogba Ethnic Nationality in Rivers
State both at home and indaspora have joined the people of Benin Kingdom and
indeed the entire Nigerians to mourn the home call of the 39th Oba of Benin
ancient kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’oba N’edo Akpolokpelo Solomon Erediauwa.
The Oba (Eze-Ogba) of Ogbaland and former chairman, Rivers
State council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Sir Chukumela Obi II.
In his tribute described the late Benin monarch as an iroko,
bridge builder, detribalize, honest, peace maker, out spoken born to rule and
one of the respected refined and revered Royal Fathers in the country who
always has the peace, unity and oneness of Nigeria at heart because of his
uprightness.
Oba Chukumela Obi II, who is one of the close associates of
the late Oba Eradiuwa further described him as a dependable ally, God fearing
gentleman, unassuming and philanthropist whose demise is not only a great loss
to the Traditional institution, The South-South Geo Political Zone but the
entire country.
The Eze Ogba, a one time National President of Traditional
rulers of oil mineral producing Communities in Nigeria (TROMPCON) who was among
those that witnessed the coronation of the departed king in 1979 noted that
though death is painful, but the peaceful transition of the Oba of Benin at a
ripe age without blemish is an indication of a life well spent on earth.
He recalled the prominent role played by the departed Benin
monoarch towards the creation of the present Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government
Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State when approached by the Oba (Eze-Ogba) in council
on the issue, noted that the people of ONELGA will continue to remember him for
that kind gesture.
Eze Chukumela Obi on behalf of himself and the entire good
people of Ogba Ethnic Nationality in Rivers State condoles with all traditional
rulers in the South- South Nigeria, the government and people of Edo State and
indeed all Nigerians on the passage of the great statesman and prayed the
Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest.
The Ogba kingdom in Rivers State traces its origin to Ogba
its origin to Ogba in Benin from where they migrated during the troubled times
of the Benin empire.
