Wike picks Mrs Ipalibo Banigo as running mate
(Nigeria) Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship
candidate, Chief Nyesom Wike on Tuesday formally presented Mrs Ipalibo Banigo as the deputy governorship candidate of
the party for the 2015 elections.
The 62-year Medical Doctor, is a former Health Commissioner,
former Permanent Secretary, former Head of Civil Service and former Secretary
to the Government of Rivers State.
Speaking during the public presentation of his running mate
in Port Harcourt, Wike said that the governorship of the state was not a
personal property of a godfather to be bequeathed to ill-prepared godsons.
He said that the massive rot and under development of Rivers
State have necessitated the assemblage of the Rivers State PDP governorship
ticket built on commitment to the service of Rivers people by doing things
differently.
He said in order to realize the vision of a new Rivers State
where men and women as inseparable partners in governance and development, Dr
Banigo was nominated to offer her wealth of experience and expertise in the
quest to restore Rivers State.
"Our choice is not a run-of-the mill material. She is a
competent, tested and seasoned professional and bureaucrat with several years
as a key holder of highly challenging public offices in Rivers State.
"As a deputy governor, she will join in the crusade for
women and children's right. She bring to the PDP ticket, a rich dossier of
leadership skills necessary to achieve synergy", he said.
He urged women in the state to seize the opportunity and
vote massively for the PDP in the 2015 election to achieve the total revival of
Rivers State.
In her acceptance speech, Dr Banigo described Wike as an
outside the box thinker primed to lead Rivers State to greater heights.
She said her nomination was "An honour to all women of
Rivers State," pointing out that the interest of Rivers State will be best
served by her acceptance.
According to her, "The enormity of the task ahead is
not lost on me. This is a responsibility I do not take lightly. This is a
recognition of the great role women have played and will continue to play. I
call on women to embrace this gesture and come out en-masse to vote PDP in 2015."

Deputy governorship candidate was attended by PDP Deputy National Chairman,
Prince Uche Secondus, Senate Committee Chairman on Defence, Senator George
Sekibo, National Assembly members, state Assembly members, former governorship
aspirants, party chieftains, women leaders and youth groups.
