fire raze rooms, shops in Delta

Nigeria (Delta) An evening fire, Friday, razed no fewer than 22 rooms and shops in the Iyara area  of Warri, Delta  State, destroying property worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the fire started at 3pm from neighbouring zinc constructed shops and spread to other buildings and shops as a result of electrical connection linking the buildings.
Mrs. Patricia Akwara, the landlady of the 22 rooms’ block building, said she was at home cooking at 3pm, when she heard people shouting “ fire, fire,” and she ran out.
It was gathered that while people tried to put out the fire with water in the neighbouring zinc buildings, flame engulfed the entire building.
A lady, whose shop was gutted by the fire, said she fainted on seeing the chop on fire, adding that was at home, when she was alerted that the market was on fire.
It was also learnt that some of the items rescued from her shop were stolen by street urchins.
