Ondo election: Let us discuss on the merits please

Image
(Nigeria) By Ebun-olu Adegboruwa I've been inundated with several paste up documents, purporting to be extracts of white paper reports of a commission of inquiry, on the tenure of Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, as former attorney-general of Ondo State. First, these papers have not been truly certified, as emerging from the proper custody of the Ondo State Government and to that extent, they become documents just flying in the air. Second, Mr Akeredolu has led the prestigious Nigerian Bar Association as its President, most creditably and eruditely, and I personally remain proud of his illustrious tenure, as Bar leader. He was forthright, courageous and impactful. Third, Mr Akeredolu contested for the Governorship of Ondo State in the last election and these reports did not stop him from that contest and should not and cannot stop him now. It is totally in bad taste. I will therefore, appeal that the candidates of the parties should be allowed to contest the election on the merits, w

The ugly side of PDP

Image
(Nigeria) By Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa The People's Democratic Party, PDP, has become a perfect study in political failure. Touting itself as the largest party in Africa, the PDP has since lost relevance and become a clear shadow of its old self. Since its ouster in May 2015, this conglomeration of political racketeers and power grabbers, has never found its bearing again, showing clearly that it was only sustaining itself in power with public funds and electoral manipulations. The PDP does not understand the role of the opposition and has since been struggling to stand on its bender feet. This has in turn galvanized the monstrous APC into a party of scoundrels and anarchists, ravaging all voices of dissent with such mindless brutality. Owing mainly to its manipulative tendencies, the PDP has lost most of its prominent members, it has also lost public support and sympathy and has become largely a party of grumblers and bitter losers, without any capacity for organization or mobilizat

Another perspective to the sting operation against judges

Image
(Nigeria) By Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa I have since read the reaction of the National Judicial Council, on the arrest of judges. I expected nothing less, given the pedigree of this particular administration, either when it was in the opposition, or during its campaign to secure power, or now that it is the ruling party. It has been a case of propaganda, propaganda and propaganda. It would now seem that the leadership may truly mean well, but surely APC, as a political party, has no history of reliable stories. Given the revelations that have emerged from the NJC, my humble cry is to the Nigerian Bar Association, National Association of Judicial Workers and indeed all judicial Officers across Nigeria, to close down the courts. In the light of the emerging facts, this regime does not need the courts at all. What it desires is a situation whereby suspects are sent to jail without trial and once when government has raised any allegation, regardless of the actual and true facts, the victim st

Edo election: Ize-Iyamu lost to INEC ---Fayose

Image
*Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu (Nigeria) Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its candidate in the Edo State governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu contested against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not the All Progressives Congress, APC, describing the APC victory in the election as “victory only made possible by the use of federal government agencies to subvert the will of the people.”

Gov Wike's successful peace building measures

How Hospitals kidnap mothers, kids, over debts

(Nigeria) By Odimegwu Onwumere The harsh economic times in Nigeria is currently forcing humanitarian organisations to do the absurd. For instance in the health sector, all the good virtues of Florence Nightingale, the mother of nursing, have been thrown into the abyss. Medical doctors act on patients no matter how critical the condition, based on the colour of their currency bill.

Controversial Meeting :Gov Wike has been vindicated

(Nigeria) By Simeon Nwakaudu When Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike   on July 21, 2016 alerted the country   of a secret meeting   between the INEC National Chairman and the Rivers State APC Chairman, Davies Ikanya and Senator Magnus Abe on the forthcoming   rerun elections in Rivers State,   Rivers   APC   through   her officials   vehemently   denied that no such meeting   took place.

Rivers rerun polls: The folly of self-deceit

Image
(Nigeria) By Simeon Nwakaudu  Right from that day  when the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun threw caution to the wind to express the desperation  of his non-performing party to capture Rivers State at all costs because of its resources, elections have become endless in the state. The APC using all manner of fraudulent  means , known and unknown,  has plotted the worst forms of crimes against the people of Rivers State. Since the return to democracy,  no state has suffered the level of political torture and ungodly  attacks that the APC has subjected Rivers State with the aid of its instruments of control of state tools of government.  Therefore, for 16 months running, the APC  and her tools of government  have placed Rivers State in a perpetual condition  of elections, expecting  a particular  outcome not desired by the people of the state. As a result of the manipulation  of  the  APC,  Rivers State has been without Senators for ab

Buhari's commitment to Ogoni short of expectations

Image
(Nigeria) By Fegalo Nsuke The news of President Muhammadu Buhar's visit to Ogoniland elicited much interests far more than any other presidential visit to the area. Expectations were high and the area was agog for the president's visit. The event was largely seen as a reward for non-violence. It is only unfortunate that it cost the lives of an entire generation of Ogoni leadership for government to pay attention to the Ogoni situation. The Ogoni people defied the rains and have turned out in their numbers. It was the first time we could see a commitment, though verbal, to address an aspect of the Ogoni problem.  The flag-off gave hope that Ken Saro-Wiwa and his compatriots did not die in vain. The cleanup of Ogoni is seen as an important step for us to achieve a safer society. In as much as we welcome it, we are fully aware that the pollution of our environment was aided by the Nigerian government who went as far as killing our people and leaders to protect the polluters an
