The Sudanese authorities have prohibited local media from covering any news related to the Ebola virus.Press sources who asked not to be mentioned for security reasons confirmed to APA on Saturday that the security authorities have circulated warning to all media outlets not to publish any news or articles related to the transmission of the Ebola virus in Sudan, reports APA. The prohibition came after local media reported on some suspected cases of Ebola in the west of Sudan. The Minister of Health Affairs for the Darfur Regional Authority, Firdos Abdel Rahman Yousif denied reports of the deadly Ebola virus disease in El Geneina, capital of West Darfur State.

Ebola: Unilorin to establish virology complex

100 Ukrainian troops surrender in Novorossia----Militia

More than 100 Ukrainian servicemen have surrendered to the army of Novorossia, the headquarters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, DPR, said on Sunday. “The Ukrainian military surrendered arms in the area of Starobeshevo (in the southeast of the Donetsk region). The prisoners of war have been sent to detention facilities. Medical aid has been provided to the wounded,” the DPR headquarters is quoted by the Novorossia news agency, according to Itar-Tass.

Ukrainian troops were retreating from Donetsk toward Zaporozhye, witnesses told Itar-Tass on Saturday. Troops took heavy weapons with them in the mass retreat, Donetsk residents said. Local Novorossia news agency reported militiamen destroyed about 20 tanks and armoured vehicles in the latest fighting. Militia forces have approached the strategically important city of Mariupol. According to Itar-Tass, an assault was not launched, but groups from forces of the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic already “worked” in the suburbs. The city was encircled, witnesses said.

Ebola: Senegal confirms first case of virus

The Ebola epidemic that has killed more than 1,500 people in west Africa has spread to a fifth country with the first confirmed case of the virus in Senegal, reports Al-Jazeera news. Senegal's health minister, Awa Marie Coll Seck, said on Friday the patient was a man from Guinea. He had visited a hospital in Dakar on Tuesday but concealed that he had had close contact with Ebola victims in his home country.

A Russian Air Force transport Il-76 plane will carry a humanitarian aid cargo to Serbia, a spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry press service told reporters on Saturday. Commander of the Luhansk People’s Republic militia, Alexei Mozgovoi, has said that they do not need Russia’s military aid. Speaking on Friday, he said  "Now we are using weaponry, seized from the National Guard of Ukraine. All weaponry is our trophy. We have enough of it.” According to Itar-Tads, Russian humanitarian aid is only indispensable for southeastern Ukraine. “If Russia wishes to help us, no military aid will be. UN urges warring factions in Ukraine to stop strikes on civilians

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay on Friday urged the warring factions in the Ukraine conflict to stop strikes on civilians as they violate international humanitarian law. “Deliberate targeting of civilians is a violation of international humanitarian law, and more must be done to protect them,” Pillay said following the fifth report of the Monitoring Mission of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). “All those involved in the hostilities in the affected areas of the east must at all times comply with the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution. This is particularly important in densely populated areas,” she said. Donetsk militia to free trapped Ukrainian troops

Leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic are ready to provide humanitarian corridors for encircled Kiev-loyal troops on condition of their disarmament. According Itar-Tass, the Kremlin press service said earlier on Friday that Putin in his address to militia of Novorossia (the Donetsk and Luhansk republics) urged to let troops out of the encirclement to prevent unneeded casualties. East Ukraine fighting death toll rises to 2,593

The death toll from fighting in eastern Ukraine nears 2.600, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said here on Friday. Resident doctors yet to resume work in Lagos

43 peacekeepers seized in Syrian Golan Heights---UN

Syrian armed groups, some of whom are linked to Al-Qaeda, captured 43 United Nations peacekeepers on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights on Thursday and surrounded 81 others, the UN said. According to AFP, the 43 peacekeepers from Fiji were forced to surrender their weapons and taken hostage near the Quneitra crossing, but 81 Filipino blue helmets "held their ground" and refused to disarm, the Filipino defense department said.

(Nigeria) An Ojo Magistrate Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a 26-year-old man, Samuel Alphonus, in prison over alleged sexual assault. The accused, who resides near Government Technical College , Abule-Ado, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and theft. US warns of more sanctions against Russia over Ukraine

United States warned Thursday it was considering new sanctions against Russia over its involvement in the latest fighting in Ukraine . "We have additional tools and sanctions that we can certainly choose to put in place," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, who said those options would be discussed with NATO allies. "A military solution is not what we think is the appropriate approach so we are taking every tool that we can to see if we can reach a solution here through diplomatic means," she added, according to AFP.

Militia takes control of east Ukraine’s Novoazovsk

The army of the unrecognized federative state of Novorossia in war-torn east Ukraine has taken control of Donetsk regional city of Novoazovsk and several neighboring settlements in a counteroffensive operation, the spokesman of the Ukrainian Security Service said. The situation has complicated in the combat zone over the past day, he said, adding that militias continued the counteroffensive in the south-eastern part of Donetsk region, reports Itar-Tass. Active fighting continues in Luhansk suburbs and near the cities of Donetsk and Ilovaisk, Lysenko said. The development could, however, not be confirmed from other sources.

Court remand 3 hotel attendants for recording customer’s sexual escapade

(Nigeria ) Three hotel attendants, who allegedly recorded a customer’s sexual affair and demanded a ransom of N10 million, were on Thursday charged before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos and remanded at KiriKiri Prisons, Lagos. The employees had used the hotel’s CCTV to record the guest’s sexual exploit with his girlfriend. The accused: Sunday Okon, 23; Rita Emmanuel, 28; and Goodness Akpan, 24, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a four-count charge of fraud, demanding property with menace, conspiracy and indecent practices.

Hamas will refuse to disarm: Meshaal

Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal on Thursday rejected any attempt to disarm his Palestinian Islamist movement in Gaza as demanded by Israel , saying the group's weapons were "sacred". According to APF, "The weapons of the resistance are sacred and we will not accept that they be on the agenda" of future negotiations with Israel , Meshaal told a news conference in Doha where he lives in exile. Over 1,000 Russian troops' in Ukraine----NATO

A senior North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO official said on Thursday that "well over a thousand" Russian troops were operating inside Ukraine and warned that the West faced a "very aggressive" Russia, according to AFP . Russian fighters "support separatists, fighting with them and fighting amongst them," said NATO's Brigadier-General Nico Tak, adding that the supply of arms by Russia had increased in both "volume and quality".

IS executes Syrian soldiers---Rights group

Jihadist militants from Islamic State, IS, were said to have executed "dozens" of Syrian army soldiers, activists say. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said that the soldiers were captured while attempting to flee to Hama province after IS stormed the Tabqa airbase, according to BBC news. Twitter accounts belonging to jihadists had boasted about 200 deaths, it added.

Russia denies its military, hardware involved in Ukraine hostilities

Russian servicemen and military hardware are not taking part in hostilities in Ukraine, Russia’s permanent representative to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, OSCE, Mr Andrey Kelin said after a meeting of the organization’s Permanent Council. “We clearly stated that there is no participation of Russian military. We do not supply any hardware there,” Kelin said, reports Itar-Tass.

A pro-Russia militia  leader has said serving Russian soldiers, on leave from their posts, are fighting Ukrainian troops alongside the country's separatists in eastern Ukraine , the website of a Russian state television channel has reported. "Among us are fighting serving soldiers, who would rather take their vacation not on a beach but with us, among brothers, who are fighting for their freedom," said Zakharchenko in an interview posted on Thursday on Vesti.ru, reports Al-Jazeera news.

Ukraine ban exports of military, dual-use items to Russia

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree banning export of military and dual-use items to Russia. Poroshenko's decree enforced the National Security and Defense Council's decision of August 27 to stop sending to Russia military and other items that may be used by the armed forces. According to Itar-Tass, the only exemption was granted to equipment used for research and peaceful purposes as part of international space projects.

NAFDAC seizes contraband products in Kano

( Nigeria ) The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has sealed off seven shops and confiscated contraband food products worth millions of naira in Kano State . The NAFDAC Assistant Director (Enforcement), Mr Shaba Mohammed, disclosed this in Kano on Thursday in an interview with NAN . Six of the affected shops were located at the popular Singer Market, while the other shop was situated at Galadima area in Sabon Gari.

Ebola cases could exceed 20,000----- WHO

The World Health Organisation, WHO, says the Ebola outbreak in West Africa eventually could exceed 20,000 cases, more than six times as many as doctors know about now. According to Al-Jazeera news, a new plan to stop Ebola by the United Nations health agency also assumes that in many hard-hit areas, the actual number of cases may be two to four times higher than is currently reported.

( Nigeria ) President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the stigmatization of Nigerians by some countries over recent cases of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country. Speaking at a meeting with Mr. David Navarro, a Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, President Jonathan faulted the discriminatory actions such as that which forced Nigeria ’s team to the Youth Olympics in China to abandon its participation.

Russian courts close 3 McDonald's branches for 90 days

Moscow courts on Wednesday ordered a 90-day closure of three McDonald's restaurants in the city centre over breaches of sanitary rules. Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Olga Golodets said there was no “total plan” to inspect all the chain's outlets in Russia. She claimed activities were being carried out “in accordance with the general plan, and based on some cases of violations of sanitary-epidemiological legislation.”
