6 soldiers killed in bomb attack in Pakistan’s North Waziristan

Six soldiers have been killed and two others wounded in a roadside bomb attack in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region of North Waziristan, officials say, reports PressTV.
Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan. Thousands have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping the country.
Pakistani officials said on Sunday a remote-controlled bomb exploded near a convoy of Pakistani security personnel in Haider Khel area alongside Bannu-Miranshah Road.
“The roadside bomb planted near Khawaja Khar check post went off when a convoy left Mirali on its way to the northwestern city of Bannu,” a local security official said, adding that one military vehicle had been destroyed in the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but officials often blame the pro-Taliban militants for such assaults.
The militants have carried out numerous attacks against Pakistani politicians as well as civilians, and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country, despite frequent offensives by the Pakistani army. Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan joined an alliance with the United States in the so-called war on terror.
